As spring arrives, it is time to prepare for your annual spring clean. In addition to organising drawers, decluttering your wardrobe and cleaning hidden spots in your home, it is important to include your home exterior in your spring cleaning regime. Soffits, fascias and gutter cleaning ready for spring 2021 can help you to clear your guttering system of winter debris, ready for a fresher start to the new season.

Guide to Gutter Cleaning
Over time, your gutter can get clogged with debris. With supervision for your safety, climb a ladder and begin scooping out all of the debris and dispose of it appropriately.
Take up an empty bucket with you and begin scooping out your gutters, either while wearing thick gloves or using a narrow garden trowel. Your guttering system can then be washed out lightly using a hose, working towards the outlet. If you find any stubborn grime left over, consider using a stiff brush.
Clearing Your Drain Pipes
If your water is struggling to flow easily through your gutter system, there might be something blocking it’s path. Again, a hose can be used to clear the pathway or a plumber’s auger for anything more stubborn.
Cleaning Soffits and Fascias
Fascias are long boards which are fitted along the lower edge of your roof. This helps to support the guttering and the bottoms row of tiles on your property. Whereas soffits are fitted directly under your fascias and can be designed with ventilation to provide air flow to the roof area.
When it comes to cleaning them, a simple wipe over with clean soapy water can work well to lift dirt. If you have ventilated soffits, avoid pushing dirt and debris into them by using a low pressure nozzle.
Checking for Gutter Repairs and Replacements
Sometimes, a visual check for any noticeable damage is the easiest way to recognise if you need gutter repairs and replacements. Holes and cracks in your guttering can cause water to drip down walls instead of flowing down the drainpipe.
Another sign of needing gutter repairs and replacements is if your gutter system has come away from the walls, as it should be securely fitted. This can leave room for water to leak and should be fixed.
If you notice that the water flowing out of your drainpipe doesn’t look right considering the rainfall you have been having, there may be a blockage in your gutter. While a thorough clean may be enough to resolve the issue, don’t ignore the problem if it persists.
If your gutters aren’t doing their job, you may notice mould inside of your home. If you find any of the above signs, enquire about gutter repairs and replacements.
